Trip to Lafayette

Maybe it was just cabin fever but when Jim C. mentioned to Jim Mossman that there was a Five Guys in Lafayette, it didn’t take us long to decide a drive was in order.

I had already had a good breakfast of leftover eggplant lasagna from the potluck of the night before, so I wasn’t hungry.  I ate the peanuts and nibbled a few fries.

We went to check out a yarn shop, but it was closed on Mondays, so we stopped at a place called Pieces of Eight, a very nice gift shop nearby.

Next we searched for the Drug Emporium, a health food grocery store.  I am going wheat free, following the lifestyle diet from the book Wheat Belly by William Davis, MD.  So at the Drug Emporium I bought a variety of alternative flours to do some baking (coconut flour, almond meal/flour, chickpea flour, and ground golden flaxseed).

When we returned to Abbeville Linda and I drove to Walmart to pickup some items…found a necklace to go with her dress for Betty’s Mardi Gras Ball and some cocoa covered almonds for me to snack on.

The weather continued to be warm and wonderful (80*) so we were able to sit outside for happy hour into the evening.  That was so nice….we love Betty’s Louisiana Room but it does get close in there with a park full with people. Hopefully with the weather predicted to continue to be warm we will have many more happy hours outside.

That was my day…..hope yours was good also.

Remember, you are loved.

  1. We tried to get into Betty's this week, but of course she had no room for us. Soooo, we are at the Palmetto Island State Park just out of Abbeville! I am so behind in my blog reading that I had no idea that you were so close. Thanks for the info on the Drug Emporium. We just may need to stop there, if it is on our route west.

    1. Yah, getting into Betty's during Mardi Gras requires reservations usually a year in advance. We made our two years ago. We'll be here till March 6th

  2. As always, good to read your post! And, I am so excited to learn that you are going to go wheat free! It's about a year for us now, and we couldn't be happier with the results! I believe you will find it a great lifestyle choice and see big improvements in how you feel! Last summer, a friend wrote and asked about what we were doing... I wrote her a "story" about our journey into Paleo. If you are interested, I would be happy to e-mail a copy to you. Sometimes it is most helpful to learn and share... sure helps me! Just let me know. Best regards to you both! Be well! Dianne

    1. Sure email me the info on Paleo Diet. So far I haven't felt any different, but I don't eat much wheat as it is, so don't know what will happen in time. You know us, we cook from scratch like you do and don't eat processed foods, so we'll see how much difference going wheat free will do. I'm hoping to lose some weight.

  3. Bobbie - glad you found "Wheat Belly" - it has truly changed my life! Who knew that all my ills of the last 60+ years were actually a sensitivity to wheat???? Wishing you good health & continued happiness!

    1. I'm giving it a try to lose some weight, but it would be nice if not eating wheat also helped with the joint pain.
