South Fork Campground

Jim and I wanted a change of scenery so we talked with Heinz and Angela and decided to spend the weekend at South Fork Campground, managed by our buddies, Rich and Terri Deacon.

So Fork CG (6)

We all got here about 11:00 a.m. and got set up next to each other.  Then we piled into our truck and headed out for lunch at Ramon’s here in South Fork.  It is only one of four restaurants still opened in town with several others closing down (The Shaft, Silver Fork and Hungry Logger).

Business must be good because they are building an additional dining area in the front.  The food here is good with great flavor, just not much zing…spiciness.

After lunch we drove on up to Big Meadows Campground, the only one opened.  There were several rigs already there and camping.  The reservoir was pretty with snow still on the mountain tops.

On the way back we stopped at Wolf Creek Ranch Ski Lodge to see if Jennifer and Mike, the managers, were around.  They was….but I forgot to take a photo.  Mike showed us one of the rooms he recently remodeled using lumber made from the pine beetle killed trees.  Water seeps into the wood through the beetle boring holes and it gives the wood a beautiful blue tinge. This is the closest accommodations to Wolf Creek skiing you can find and they are priced under $100 a night….very reasonable and such pretty rooms.

We had a little happy hour and cooked some burgers and brats.

I was having trouble breathing in this higher altitude, so I turned in early, but the rest stayed up and partied-hardy. So nice to sleep up in the mountains again.

Remember, you are loved.

  1. Sounds like another good time. The altitude here in Green Ridge is kicking my but so far. Seems to get a little better each day though.
