A Little This ~ A Little That

I have a few photos I wanted to blog about – all unrelated but neat.

One of the companies here decided to barbecue and brought us a plate.  Jim got the steak and I ate the chicken.

The chicken was the best I ever had….tender and so moist and juicy.  Jim said the steak was great.  We had baked potatoes and a interesting rice combination with pinto beans and pork bits….I tasted it and it was good.  You notice the total lack of vegetables (except for the two thin slices of green pepper).  Rig workers aren’t big on veggies!

Here’s Jim repairing the bell rope.  They are like the old-fashioned bell ropes they had in the gas stations back in the day to warn when an auto was outside…..the bell by our rig rings when a vehicle rolls over the rubber line.  The rope got split and he had to cut it out and join the two pieces with a connector.

We do get the most beautiful sunsets here in Texas.  Almost rivaling those in the desert of Arizona.

Things are pretty slow at the gate the last few weeks; but the pay is the same so we are enjoying the quiet lull.

Remember, you are loved.

  1. They sure feed you good there. I would have chosen the chicken also.

  2. I remember those old rubber hoses laid across the drive way. I worked in a "service" station when I was in high school and they had one. I suppose most places us the electronic eye or laser beam now. I know our garage door opener had a laser beam to detect when something crossed under the door. I had not thought about those rubber bell ringers in many years. :-)

    1. A lot of gate guards have problems with their bell ropes because they split a lot and that stops them from ringing the bell, but we have been real lucky with ours and have had little problems.

  3. Wow, it sounds like you guys are in good hands! Good for you, the food looks delicious! I still see a lot of those ring hoses around, I guess old habits die hard, or whatever works best.... Good luck to you! I just discovered this blog but you guys are fun!

    1. Yup, we have javalinas out here on this ranch also. In fact, I think we have some babies now. Saw a big one, a smaller one and then six ity, bity creatures tagging along behind them.
