Disaster Drill and Partridge Eggs

The photo in our banner today is a shot I took leaving the local public golf course the other night.  It is of Mt. Blanca at sunset, with the usual pink hue off of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (Blood of Christ).  The sun setting in the west causes the reflection on Mt. Blanca in the east.  Pretty phenomenal.

A lot of things have been happening around here.  The wind, for one.  It has been blowing like crazy.  This is our third day of high wind advisories with gusts of over 50 MPH.  Lost the signal from the satellite, so couldn’t watch anything so I knitted up another Swiffer Cover.

Salai came over to show me all the weaving and knitting projects she has been working on since last I saw her in September.  I really like the knitted jacket she made and asked her for the pattern.  She said using size 15 needles, it knits up fast.

Then she brought out a sample of yarn dying she did.  The “blank” was knitted on a machine, then Salai dyed it and then started unraveling the piece as she knitted the socks.  Very ambitious!

Salai has a number of animals on her farm, including 13 chickens. But last night she brought over some eggs from a friend of hers to share with us. Take a close look…those tiny ones are quail eggs…the next larger size is a partridge egg…and those monsters are turkey eggs.  They are 1 1/2 the size of a chicken egg.

Today Jim’s brother, Don who is the Fire Chief here, asked him if he would help out on a disaster drill.  How fast do you think Jim said “YES”?  It was a nanosecond!!!  The drill involved about 75 folks from EMS, police, fire, etc.  It took most of the day, but when he came home this is what he looked like….that’s makeup coming down his face from his year…notice the smile! He was playing a dump truck driver with injuries.  Yeh, he loved it!!

So that was our day, how was yours?  Remember, you are loved.
