Nacogdoches, Texas - Azalea Trail

Friday we took a trip north to Nacogdoches, Texas, to participate in the Azalea Trail.

Nacogdoches TX (4)We stopped at the Visitor’s Center to pick up a map for the 20 mile self-guided driving route around the city.  They use color-coded signs on street corners to guide you around, pretty clever.

The downtown area is very quaint with brick streets around the main town square. There are also many old buildings showing dates of the late 1800’s.

There were many beautiful homes on the tour, but unfortunately most of the azaleas hadn’t bloomed yet…but the homes were nice to see.

The tour included the wonderful Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden – the largest in the state of Texas.  It really was an amazing walk through this garden, which is located right on the side of a busy highway.

By chance, we found a wonderful restaurant for lunch called The Jalapeno Tree. Looks like this place is a chain, but it sure is good. Take a look at the menu. My friends know I am very picky about my Mexican food. Well, this place blew we away. I had the Shrimp Enchilada with the tequila cream sauce and it was sooo good. They serve thin, warm chips with their tasty red and a white salsa and serve individual dips for each person.

It was a very nice day spent with friends, nature and good food.  Now what more can you want?

Remember, you are loved.
