Early Iron Festival on Labor Day Weekend

Jim entered his restored 1964 El Camino in this wonderful car show held the last 34 years on Labor Day Weekend. There were 603 cars this year…biggest ever.  People come from all over Colorado and nearby states.

El Camino 2014 (2)

Friday we drove to Alamosa and cleaned the El Camino and we drove to the free dinner and beer provided with our entry fee at Cole Park.  They said later they served 2,000 meals of tacos, green chili and refried beans.  Lord knows how much beer they served all being free.

Afterwards we put the El Camino to bed and drove back to South Fork for the night.  Saturday we woke early and returned to Alamosa to show off the El Camino.  We received a lot of nice comments and even an interested buyer….hope that works out.

Here are some of the winners….

DSCN4199When we returned to South Fork we made riblets for
hors d'oeuvre while Teddy grilled sausage to go on crackers with cheese and jalapenos…a favorite. We made up a few more batches of Alligator Farts and then we grilled burgers for dinner.

Sunday Teddy and Roberta made breakfast for all of us.

I think we all nursed our headaches during the day and then joined back together for dinner.  Jim grilled three racks of ribs for Teddy and six packets of trout.  Roberta fixed a big batch of mushrooms that were delicious.

Teddy made a marvelous mixed berry cobbler in his Dutch oven. He makes cobblers with fresh fruit, a yellow cake mix and a can of 7-up. It came out so good and was such a treat.

We scarfed down all the food in appreciation for all the cooks.

Sunday night we made one last campfire and shared the highlights of our summer together.  Monday Jim made a big batch of biscuits and sausage gravy for everyone as our last meal together.  Then Heinz and Angela left as they had to go to work Tuesday.  We and The Abeytas stayed one more day to wait out the traffic on the roads and left on Tuesday morning.

It was a wonderful extended weekend with many of our friends.  We all had such a good time we made reservations for same time next year!  Anyone else want to join us next Labor Day Weekend at South Fork Campground in South Fork, Colorado?

Remember, you are loved.
