A few people contacted me asking for Birdie’s tortilla recipe so here it is. Thanks Birdie.
4 cups all purpose flour
1.5 tsp salt
1.5 tsp baking powder
Mix these ingredients well.
4 T lard or Crisco shortening (solid)
Cut into flour mixture.
Gradually add warm water to make dough - will be around 1 to 1.5 cups water.
Knead for several minutes. Let sit in warm room temperature for 10 minutes. Add small amount of flour only if dough is sticky.
Form egg-size balls and roll out. Cook on skillet on both sides until speckled brown.
This recipe makes between 4 - 5 dozen depending on size made. Birdie usually doubles the recipe or 1.5 the recipe. The tortillas can be frozen but make sure cooked tortillas are cooled completely before bagging.
