We went to lunch one day at Mulates in nearby Breaux Bridge to get a real taste of Cajun food. Mulates is known for preserving the food, music and culture of the area.
They are well known for having Zydeco music in the evenings and on Sunday afternoons.
Breaux Bridge is a sweet little town. It started back in 1771, Acadian pioneer Firmin Breaux began buying the land around what is now Breaux Bridge. By 1786 he was one of the largest property owners in the area. In 1799 Breaux built a footbridge across Bayou Teche to allow passage for his family and neighbors. The first bridge was a suspension footbridge, likely made of rope and small planks. When traveling directions were given, folks would say "go to Breaux's bridge...", which eventually was adopted as the city's name.

All the meals came with French fries, cole slaw and a scoop of jambalaya along with garlic bread. It was very good.

Mulates is one of our favorite places, the absolute BEST gumbo! Did you have the warm bread pudding with Bourbon sauce, and Chicory coffee to. Oh so good!
