Fort Pickens Campground - Pensacola, Florida

Welcome to Florida where we woke up this morning to temperatures of 18 or 22 degrees, depending on which app you use, with wind chill feeling like 8 degrees. Looks like the whole country is experiencing a cold spell, except southern Florida.

We had an easy 137 mile drive yesterday from Ocean Springs, MS, but had a side wind blowing.  Arrived to find our friend Charles already set up next to our site and waiting for us.  Sandy had some appointments yet so she will get here later in the week.  I made a big pot of chili and shared with Charles to keep us warm.

We had a delay as we stopped at an RV store to see what it will cost to replace our slide seals.  Seems we’ve been getting moisture under the slide carpeting.  Looks like it will cost us about $1,800 to repair, but they can do it all in one day.  As usual the labor is the largest component.

We’ll drive around a little today to get the lay of the land…find a grocery store, laundromat, etc.  There is a couple of long fishing piers around here also we want to check out.  Jim and I really like fishing piers…great for people watching.  I saw there is a lighthouse nearby we will check out too.

I’m hoping the weather warms up so we can enjoy the sugar white sands on the beaches here on the island where Fort Pickens Campground sits. It is part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. This is a good deal for seniors as it is actually a national park so our Senior Passes work for entrance fee (normally $8 for a week but free with pass) and camping ($13 a night).  We made reservations for two weeks, so if nothing else we’ll enjoy the change of scenery.

More tomorrow….see you then.

Remember, you are loved.
