Lunch at Suire’s Grocery

I got up and around early yesterday.  I had a couple of things to return to Walmart and then did some Christmas shopping for one of our great granddaughters.

When I got back to the rig Jim decided to go get a haircut Open-mouthed smile   Then while I was putting away things Tom came over and said a bunch of the folks just decided to go to Suire’s in Kaplan for lunch….did we want to go. Heck, yes.  So I called Jim and, the darling that he is, he came home without his haircut so we go join the gang.

You’ve heard me talk about Suire’s before in a couple of previous blog posts here.  I wrote another post about Suire’s back in 2011 when we first went there, but can I find it?  No, no, no and it’s making me mad…sorry, it was a good post of the first time we came here and it was good…darn!!!

This is a wonderful lunch counter on the outskirts of the small town of Kaplan.  The two sister run the whole thing.  You order and they write down your order on a roll of adding machine tape and turn and hand the order to the back kitchen.  When the food is ready they call out your name and go get it and the order slip.  When you are finished you go back to the counter and pay for your food and any other dessert or treat you also picked up.  Very trusting operation, but it works, and works well.

Tom got  3 different pistolettes  - shrimp, crab and crawfish. Deep fried  stuffed bread indigenous to southwest Cajun country.

Jay and I got gumbo but I forgot to take photos, but it was good.

Here’s the gang minus Jim and I

Happy hour was a little tamer last night, but the conversation was lively and the food was very filling – boudin, jalapeno sausage, chile con queso, roasted asparagus, buffalo spiced chicken nuggets, brownies, dips and spreads.  You never have to eat dinner after happy hour. In fact, we hardly cook at all because we seem to go out for lunch a lot too.

A lot of the conversation centered around where to eat tonight before we drive to Lafayette to see the play “A Tuna Christmas”.  We decided on eating at Shucks here in Abbeville.  I’ll let you know how it went tomorrow.

Remember, you are loved.
