Road to Chama, New Mexico

We are in Alamosa, Colorado, right now getting here last Monday.  But last Saturday while still in Espanola, New Mexico we took a trip north to Chama to visit Teddy’s parents.

We drove north on Hwy 84, which was first for us.  We are well familiar with the major roads of New Mexico, but have never driven on this particular road.  What we saw was awe striking.

Driving through Los Ojos I spied Tierra Wools…well anytime I see the words “wool” you know I’m going to stop.  So glad we did. They have their own sheep and even raise Shepard’s Lamb for the meat which is highly sought after.

What a beautiful place all full of yarn, looms, rugs and table runners.  The old building, that at one time had been a hardware store, had beautiful old wood floors that creaked.  There were a couple of wood stoves warming the building and was so in keeping with the store.

Tierra Wools offer classes in yarn dying, spinning and weaving from one to four day sessions.  Look at the six beautiful looms they have in the back and the colorful yarns they offer.

After a nice lunch we visited another friend at their beautiful home, much of the work they did themselves. 

    

On the way home Teddy drove us through some more beautiful country including seeing and feeding deer peanuts and getting my finger bit.

    

We even saw Linda Hunt’s house of NCIS Los Angeles fame – so pretty.

    

It was a very nice day with seeing a yarn shop, good food, good company and nice scenery.  Doesn’t get any better than that for me.
