Day Two in New Orleans was dedicated to visiting the Garden District via trolley. These trolleys are really fun to ride and certainly reminds you of days gone by. It costs $1.25 for a one-way trip or 40 cents for us folks over 65 years old, so it is really inexpensive for a two hour round trip from Canal Street through the Garden District.
The houses in the Garden District are what the majority of us would consider “mansions”. A fellow rider said that on a tour they were told that the majority of the houses are occupied by only one couple….in those big homes….unbelievable. When you think we RVers live in about 300 square feet it is hard to fathom only two people living in these huge places.
It was exciting to see Loyola College and Tulane University as we rode by.
Riding the trolley gave us the opportunity to see great sights of the murals around New Orleans.
After our two hour ride we walked over to Margaritaville for lunch. On the way we passed by a couple of popular places…Central Grocery known as the birthplace of the wonderful Italian Mufaletta sandwich. Coop’s Place is across from Margaritaville and the place Jim talks about a lot from his trip two years ago to New Orleans with friends Linda B. and Colette S. ‘He really, really liked Coop’s Place and their shrimp po’boys and gumbo, but he decided on Margaritaville for lunch this time.
Margaritaville was very trendy and the food was just OK…I’ll vote to go to Coop’s Place next time for more authentic food.
Here are a few scattered photos I took
As we drove back to the Bayou Segette State Park we stopped at the shrimp shanties and each couple bought two pounds of jumbo shrimp. We made a feast of coconut shrimp, potato salad, cole slaw and wonderful French bread…no photos, too busy cooking.
I’m so happy we decided to go back to New Orleans after Betty’s RV Park. It was soooo worth the trip and time it took. I can’t wait to go back to New Orleans again!!!
Remember, you are thought of often and LOVED a lot!!!!!
One of our favorite places there is The Southern Candy Company, not sure exactly where but its in the French Quarter.
