Davis Bayou Campground, Ocean Springs, MS

Before we leave Mississippi, I best talk about the campground we’ve been staying at for two weeks.  Overall it was a good stay.

Getting directions to this campground is sketchy. From I-10 you take Exit 50 and turn left on Hwy 90 if you are driving East OR Exit 57 and turn right on Hwy 90 if you are driving West. Look for the brown recreational signs for “Gulf Islands National Seashore” and go south on N. Ocean Springs Road from Hwy 90.

Rates are $16 per day, for water and electric with a convenient dump station.  However they do honor the Golden Age Pass/America the Beautiful card so we paid $8.  At $56 a week it is a bargain.  Please note this is a “first come, first serve” campground and they don’t take reservations. Weekends are busy and it is better to come early in the day if possible.  Check out time is 2:00 p.m.

There are two loops with the left loop having deeper sites without trees and the right loop for smaller rigs with trees.

The park was very clean, friendly and quiet. There isn’t a lot to do in the area as so much is being restored. Downtown Ocean Springs is cute with galleries, boutiques, cafes, etc. Lovelace Drug has an old-fashion soda fountain, and the reconstructed beach area is very nice.

We very much enjoyed our time at the campground and would definitely return.  We had a couple of nice camp fires, many shared happy hours, visits from traveling Boomers and some great meals.  All-in-all, a very nice stay.

More Boomers Visit

Davis Bayou Campground in Ocean Springs, MS, is a good stop for those going across the lower part of the country.

Last Friday Gloria and Charlie Goss stopped on their way from California to Florida, and Sunday another Boomer had contacted us who was stopping by.

This is Joyce and Larry Space, Boomers who came from Summerdale on their way to Louisiana.

Joyce and Larry will also be at Betty’s RV Park, Abbeville, LA for Mardi Gras so we will be enjoying Betty’s together later on in the month.

 

Here’s a cute picture…Terri Deacon and Joyce comparing feet to see whose was the most narrower.  (I said it that way because “whose was narrowerer” didn’t sound right.)  I think Joyce won by a slim margin…did you get the pun?
