RV Goes Furniture Shopping

We have been looking to replace the rig’s sleeper sofa.  Since Jim’s and my taste are different it takes a while to find something we both like.

Those who know me know I don’t like to shop, but then into my life comes Linda Mossman, and all of a sudden shopping is fun!  I can’t do it as often and as long as Linda would like, but she has gotten me to try on 12 pairs of jeans to find the 2 I liked; and she found a few furniture places for me to check out.

Last Friday (after buying the jeans) we went to look for a couch. We found a good one the first place we checked and then we found a nice round drop-leaf dining table at a second furniture store next door.  A quick call to Jim to come take a look see and we were in the back and forth, give and take discussion.  It was decided we’d go home and re-measure to make sure, but we’d take it. The salesman said if it didn’t fit in the door he’d take it back. Jim wanted to “think about” buying the table.

On the way home Linda said we might as well check out the furniture outlet store just past our Highway 59 turnoff to the park. OK….one more look see. Oh, my, we found a better choice for a couch and with a quick call to Jim to come look we both agreed this was the one. But now another problem…this place is “cash and carry”….no returns….you buy it you keep it.

With our measurement we only had 1/2 inch clearance to get the couch through the door…and, no, the back didn’t come off for easy moving. What if we mis-measured? What if it doesn’t fit?  Only one thing to do….bring the rig to the furniture store to couch shop!!!

The salesman said if we brought the rig to the store he’d take out our old couch and put in the new one.  If it didn’t fit we didn’t have to buy it.  Bingo….that’s a deal.  So that is what we did.  The next morning we pulled in the slides, unhooked the sewer and water and drove the RV to the furniture store arriving just after opening.

It was a booger for them to get the new couch in the door, but with taking off one leg and mashing down the puffy back it finally slide in fine.  Plus the store said they would take our old couch to the Habitat for Humanity recycle store for us.  So here is our new couch in place.  It is chocolate brown and very comfy. Being a love seat instead of a couch, it gives us a little more room in the back of the rig.

Couch

I was on a roll, so I talked Jim into buying the round drop-leaf table as well so we’d have room to serve dinner on New Year’s Eve.  Linda has her mother’s round table in their rig and it is so nice to be able to move it from the wall into the room and we can all sit around it for dinner and to play games.  The table we found isn’t the best quality, but it is so hard to find a round, drop-leaf table I didn’t want to miss this opportunity to have one.  So Jim grunted a little and said some words under his breath, but we unscrewed our old table from the floor, dropped it off at the Mission thrift store, and bought a new table. It’s a 42 inch round and two toned with the base being dark wood. I think it looks pretty good.  We kept the old chairs as they are comfortable and the lighter wood color matched.

Table

The new table certainly was a hit at our gatherings with friends this last week and made entertaining a lot easier. Jim even admitted it was a good idea and he liked it better than the old table.

The furniture changes in the RV makes it look more open and less cluttered, so I’m a happy camper!!!  So taking your RV furniture shopping is a pretty good thing.  What do you think?

Remember, you are loved.

  2. I would have loved seeing them trying to get the new love seat in the rig. Wow everything looks great. Love the table. But the most important thing is how do the pups like the new love seat>

  5. Very nice! Taking your rig is a great way to make sure it fits. Even better that the salesman agreed to get the old one out and the new one in. They are very nice looking!
